10 Worst Comic Book Films of All Time

Here they are folks. The worst of the worst. There are a number of terrible comic book films, but for me these 10 take the cake.

10. The Punisher

I’m a big fan of Thomas Jane, but he was a terrible choice to play angry vigilante Frank Castle.  Add to this one of the worst performances by John Travolta as bad guy Howard Saint, and you’ve got a film that makes the original Punisher with Dolph Lundgren, look like Citizen Kane.

Jonah Hex with Josh Brolin, Megan Fox, and John Malkovich9.  Jonah Hex

Poor Josh Brolin.  His career was going so well and then he felt the need to team up with Megan Fox.  Megan Fox alone makes this one of the worst comic book films of all time.  It doesn’t even count as a real movie either, running 80 minutes.  At least it’s short, and you’re not stuck watching this piece of junk longer than you have too.

8.  Superman IV: The Quest for Peace

You’re telling me that with all of the villians and stories that exist in the Superman universe, the best you could come up with was inventing Nuclear Man?  Awful, awful, awful.  Not even John Cryer can give a shot of humor to this hunk of junk.  Just because you have an audience ready to buy a ticket before they’ve seen one second of footage, does not give you the right to be lazy and take advantage of that audience.

7.  Blade: Trinity

I don’t know what it is about the final film in comic book trilogies sucking so bad, but this is a big pile of steaming poo.  Dracula is awakened to roam around the city and do nothing, along with say nothing.  Add Ryan Reynolds to flex his man boobies, and Jessica Biel pretending she can act her way out of a cardboard box.  Garbage.

A man with grizzly hair wearing a tank top shirt, with three metal claws in front of his face. Below his chin is the title "X-Men Origins Wolverine", the film credits and the release date, May 1.6.  X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Talk about taking advantage of a franchise.  What could have been a fantastic Origin story about one of the most beloved comic book characters of all time, turns in to a  big gigantic mess.  It has some of the worst CGI fight scenes I’ve seen in a long time as well.  Not to mention Ryan Reynolds, and the presence of Taylor Kitsch ruining the role of Gambit for everyone.  Thanks guys.

5.  Green Lantern

Ryan Reynolds horrendous work in Blade: Trinity, and X-Men Origins: Wolverine, gave him the experience he needed to ruin the Green Lantern.  Thanks Ryan! A Razzie soon awaits you at some point in your career.  He prances around in a glowing green costume, shooting cheesy line, after cheesy line off.  He does have great hair though.

4.  Ghost Rider

Nick Cage is the man, but he’s willing to make any film as long as you dangle a check in front of his face.  This is one of his worst performances, completely ruining one of my favorite comic books as a kid.  I’m sure Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance is right up there with this.  I just couldn’t put myself through the brutality of watching it.

3.  Batman and Robin

It has been well documented how terrible a film this is.  Wayyyyy too many characters coupled with some of the worst acting in the history of film.  Director Joel Schumacher threw everything he could possibly think of at the screen to try and spice up this piece of garbage.  And then there is George Clooney in that batsuit with nipples…come on.

2.  Daredevil

The slow decent of Ben Affleck in the early 2000’s was solidified with this piece of garbage. Luckily he’s bounced back with some impressive work behind the lens. Colin Farrell should also be embarrassed as the villain Bullseye, and Jennifer Gardner should just be embarrassed for being a terrible actress.  Daredevil suffers from being one cliche after another.  I would rather watch the spin-off Elektra (which just barely misses this list) than have to watch this again.

Movie poster illustrates Spider-Man swinging from a web next to a reflection of himself in the window of a large skyscraper in New York City. The reflection shows the regular red-and-blue Spider-man costume, while the Spider-Man swinging through the city shows him wearing his symbiote black costume. Text at the top of the image includes the tagline "The Greatest Battle Lies Within". Text at the bottom of the poster reveals the title, production credits, and release date.1.  Spider-Man 3

Sam Raimi should be ashamed for making this and destroying a franchise that he put so much time and effort in.  The plot is ridiculous.  The acting is beyond terrible, and what’s worse is the plot destroys one of the most interesting stories in the Spider-Man universe, the black symbiote parasite.  Peter Parker struts down the street with his hair dyed black and now has his bad boy image.  The scene sums up what a piece of garbage this movie is:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOtpeYERu9w

The worst of the worst.  What a joke.
